Description:

The Intergovernmental Internship Cooperative (IIC) is a part of SUU’s Outdoor Pathways Program and a partnership between Southern Utah University, various land management agencies, outdoor recreation focused businesses, foundations, nonprofits, and Native American tribes. The IIC annually develops over 200 challenging internship opportunities with public land partners for SUU students from all academic areas of study.

Duties:

Overall duties for the IIC Recruiting and Event Planning Intern will be as a member of SUU’s Outdoor Pathways Department. Using in-person and digital communication skills, the Recruiting and Event Planning Intern will assist with the marketing, planning, coordinating, and promotion of the Outdoor Pathway’s IIC Internship program and other initiatives.

Responsibilities:

The Recruiting and Event Planning Intern will:

  • Assist with planning, coordinating and participating in Outdoor Pathways and IIC events on campus, in classrooms, and throughout southern Utah, Northern Arizona and Nevada. Events include training, meetings, on and off-campus recruiting, and end of season celebrations.

  • Assist with marketing, recruiting, and building awareness of IIC opportunities to regional highschool and university students and recent graduates, while utilizing in person and digital communications.

  • Periodically collect, edit, and organize compelling photos and videos of IIC interns in action by traveling to worksite locations throughout Utah and northern Arizona.

  • Assist with updating, improving and implementing the IIC’s digital marketing and recruiting strategy.

  • Assist with planning, scheduling and posting social media and email communications including Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin and potentially an email newsletter platform.

Qualifications:

  • An interest in outdoor recreation, stewardship and engagement.

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.

  • Willingness to occasionally travel during the work week to recruiting events and meetings.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to design simple but professional looking promotional flyers and compelling social media content.

  • Interest-in and knowledge of photography, social media, and marketing.

  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and online design platform Visme.
